There are many hazards that threaten our communities, and there are some actions which you can take that will help you to be more prepared no matter what happens.
SIGN UP FOR COMMUNITY ALERTS
It's like having 911 call you! The Del Norte County Alert System lets you add up to five addresses (i.e. home, office, school, family) and multiple forms of contact (phone, text, and email) so that we can alert you when there's an emergency. We won't share your information and we won't bother you unless it's important.
STOCK EMERGENCY SUPPLIES
You should be prepared in case you need to leave your home in a hurry, with enough supplies to take care of yourself and your family for at least 72 hours (3 days). You should also have a store of supplies at home in case you need to shelter in place for an extended period of time. Your home kit should contain enough supplies for a minimum of 7 days (1 week). Think about any special needs you may have, especially if you have young children, pets, or seniors.
MAKE A PLAN
Do you know the best way to evacuate your home? Your neighborhood? Your community? Have you and your loved ones discussed how you will contact one another if separated in a disaster and/or where you will meet? Do you have backup copies of important identification, insurance, and medical information? The best time to plan for these needs is now.
